February 10, 2008 -
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards @ Waynesburg UniversityJudy, Kim, and myself entered some pieces into the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. I entered three photos (

[link]), Judy entered two painted platters (
[link] and
[link]), and Kim entered a painted platter as well. All of our pieces won Gold Key Awards and Kim's platter also won the American Visions Award. Yay for us!
Because we won the Gold Key Awards, our pieces went to the national judging in New York and this week we will be hearing the results of the judging and whether or not any of our pieces won any more awards. We are keeping our fingers crossed! (Especially because mine and Judy's birthdays are tomorrow

March 16, 2008 - I had my interview for the
Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts yesterday and I think it went really well. I'm confident that my interview was much better than last year. Last year I was too nervous and too inexperienced. I was much more prepared this year. I'm just altogether much more knowledgeable about photography and art, more mature, and the remarks from my interviewer were positive. Unlike last year. Haha. The judging for that will be on April 17th and they will mail the results out soon after that. Another thing for me to look forward to! The only thing that I'm nervous about is the fact that only ten photographers get chosen to actually be in the program. Ten. Ahhhhh.
March - I got into the
National Honor Society, so I'm really really happy about that. I'm planning on taking the AP English exam in May to get in to senior AP English. I discussed it with Mrs. Teagarden today to get some advice on how to prepare and she gave me a reading list, so I'm going to be spending a lottt of my time reading up until then. Which is not a bad thing at all. I love to read. And I am determined to get in to AP English. 7 out of 12 students who took the AP exam got in this year...ah...that's why I'm preparing now

April/May - Then there's the
ACT's and SAT's again. Big woo. My scores were kind of bad the first time around, so I'm retaking them and hopefully I will score better. I know I can do better.
Next Summer - Mm, and next year I'm going to apply for the
National Geographic Student Expeditions for photography. Ever since I have started working with photography, I have dreamed of working for/with National Geographic, and now students like me have a chance. It's too late to apply for this years' trips, but I have already applied for the Governor's School anyway. This year, the trips for photography are to Spain, India, Mali, Belize, Peru, Costa Rica, The Caribbean, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, China, and Tanzania. How amazing does that sound. The price of the trips are in the $6,000 range, but they offer scholarship funding if your family makes under $50,000 year. So...I'm definitely applying. Talk about a dream come true. (maybe...haha)
Devious Comments
